An Ideal class for anybody new to Resolve. This class will get you up and running with the Resolve software and both the Wave and Resolve control surfaces. The ICA Colorists have real world grading experience, so will be able to offer far more than just how to push the buttons. Those wishing to complete further training should continue with ICA Resolve 201

- DAY ONE
- Introduction to Resolve
- A complete demo of the system, looking at every area of the software and how it works with the control surface
- Setting up your Resolve
- Loading the software and getting started. How to create a new customized user, and getting all the config settings correct before you kick off. 2K, HD, what if you only need SD?
- Resolve workflows including
Film, Red, Cannon and other digital files.
- Resolve works with lots of formats, how do we load and work with all the different flavours of material our clients may bring us? Importing and conforming both film and digital material. Conforming from EDL XML and workflows from your edit system including Avid, FCP, and Smoke.
- What is a node?
- The node is the real creative hub of Resolve. Get to know how they work and how to manipulated them to be a creative and powerful tool. There are 4 types of nodes what are the differences?
- Primary Correction
- Primary correction is very important. The base for any “cool look” is the primary grade. Get it right and it will simplify your whole color correction process. Primary Corrctions
- Serial and Parallel nodes
- The most used nodes, how do they work and when do I use each one. They are unlimited can be linked and joined and at any stage so are very powerful.
- Introduction to Resolve
- DAY TWO
- Layer and Key mixer nodes
- These nodes offer lots of flexibility. See how to combine them with the other Resolve nodes to aid and complement the other nodes in the family.
- Secondary Correction
- Keying is a very important part of what we do as Colorists. Learn how to key in Resolve using either the HSL RGB or Lumance keyers.
- Power Windows
- Each node has 4 Power Windows, the classic DaVinci Circle, Linear, Polygon and a Power Curver Bezier window. How to use each one, and why do we decide to use one over the other.
- Repositioning, Key-Framing and Tracking
- Using the pan, tilt, zoom and rotate controls, just how far can we zoom in on a film or digital image? Keyframing in the timeline and auto tracking explained
- Looks and Styles with Resolve
- How to create looks and styles within Resolve that will give you a great start to your session.
- Rendering and Output Options
- The grade is finished but how and where do you render it to? Playing out to tape?
- Layer and Key mixer nodes
Certificates
All students receive an intermediate or advanced ICA certificate, with a blackmagicdesign endorsement
