The International Colorist Academy (ICA) was founded in 2009 by colorists, Kevin Shaw and Warren Eagles who between them have over 50 years of grading experience in all areas of the color correction industry. They can also boast over 30 years of training and demo experience. Kevin and Warren are currently working colorists who have pooled their valuable experience in grading Commercials, DI, music and Drama projects, to create hands on colorist training courses.
In 2010 Cédric Lejeune, Lorne Miess, Jeff Olm, Dan Harvey and Blake Jones joined as instructors and expanded the range of courses and grading systems that the ICA covers. Lorne and Dan have since gained full time employment and are no longer teaching with us, but we hope to welcome them back one day.
In 2011 Simon Walker, Dado Valentic and Sasha Haber joined as instructors, expanding our speciality areas to Red Giant, stereoscopic workflows and Scratch. In addition THX and Dolby have given us fantastic support and helped us add Display Calibration classes. BMD and Image Systems also continue to provide plenty of support for our open classes world wide.
The ICA offers worldwide specific Colorist training. The way we color images and the tools we use have changed dramatically in recent times. Colorists are now emerging from many different areas of our industry some even coming from outside the industry. Until now new colorists could hunt for a book or follow a DVD, but what these didn’t give you was real world experience. That’s about to change….. ICA have formulated different types of training courses dependent on your needs.
Topics covered include basic Color Theory, Digital and Film Workflows, Telecine and Lab History, Working with Clients and of course lots of cool stuff on looks and styles. The ICA courses can be structured to you or your companies needs, so if your market is Commercials, Drama, DI or Music clips we have it covered, enabling you to gain valuable experience that will help you stand out from your competitors.
FAQ
Will you still be Colorists?
Sure, ICA will work alongside our colorist commitments.
We feel we can only offer genuine colorist training if we are actually working on “real” jobs ourselves. Colorist training by an independent colorist not an engineer.
Where are you based?
We are all frequent travellers and work all over the world. Kevin travels from UK, Warren from Australia. Cedric flies from Paris, Lorne from Vancouver, Jeff from Los Angeles, Dan from UK and Blake from Switzerland
How long will the courses be?
We recommend 3 days minimum depending on the numbers in your group.
“Hands on, not watching” is an important part of the ICA
Can you customise a training course just for me?
Yes, absolutely. Just let us know what you are interested in and we will structure a course that suits your needs.
How much will the courses cost?
The ICA offers on site and open class training. The on-site fee will be a fixed course fee plus travel and accommodation expenses.
